Art Workshops

Artist Trading Cards

Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) are miniature works of art that measure exactly 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches (the same size as sports and other trading cards). They are freely exchanged by artists from around the world. My Artist Trading Card workshops are tailored for your particular group. They include an introduction to the concept and short discussion of the history and trading options, as well as an opportunity to make a few cards using simple and accessible techniques (both drawing and collage). Workshops have been offered at St Georges School, Stratford Hall School, Ruby Dog’s Art House, Heaventree Gallery and Mosaic Cultural Connections program for Newcomers.

Wish Flags

Wish Flags are based in the Tibetan Buddhist prayer flag tradition of hanging small fabric banners printed with messages of peace, compassion, strength and wisdom. The wishes are blown by the wind and spread the goodwill and compassion through the universe, bringing benefit to all.

Create a set of flags with your own personal messages and symbols of goodwill. Add one of your flags to a community Wish Flag collection! We will use acrylic paint, markers, block printing techniques and other materials to create the flags.

These humble banners can easily be made by people of all ages and abilities and the workshop is suitable for a variety of venues. It has previously been offered in the Yurta at Gropp’s Gallery; the Rainier Hotel Women’s Addiction Recovery Program; Creativi-TEA Community Art group; Penelope’s Birthday Party.

Community Quilts

A community quilt is a beautiful way to bring a group of people together to express their common interests and shared connections. Each participant is guided through the process of creating an individual quilt block that expresses their personal interests and style. All the blocks are assembled into a unified quilt which can be hung on a wall or used for other purposes (some have been auctioned to raise money for charitable purposes). Workshops have been offered at Rainier Hotel Women’s Addiction Recovery Program; George Pearson Hospital (for people with severe physical disabilities), Stratford Hall School.

Postcards for 2010

This series of workshops was created specifically for the Postcards for 2010 project. The workshops include information about the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games as well as an art activity for the participants to make one or more postcards each. The workshops were offered free of charge to many different community groups in the Kerrisdale area of Vancouver. You can see all the cards, and a list of participating organizations on the project website.

Crazy Crafts After School Club

A series of eigth craft activity workshops (1 hour per session) designed for students in grades 1 and 2.  Each session exposes the children to interesting new craft materials that they may not have encountered previously. We complete a different project each week. Some examples include: duct tape bags; handmade bath products; beaded keychains; and 3D art dolls (or crazy creatures). This series was offered at Stratford Hall School on two occasions.

Fibre Arts

Weaving (rigid heddle loom) and wet felting workshops have been offered at Tea Party Art Studio; Seashells and Sealing Wax Art Parties; West Point Grey Community Centre
